The Youngs and Daleys may be long gone from Young Bros. & Daley, but the business continues to live on. Not only has Young Bros. & Daley been in Downtown Lansing for more than a century, it has been at the same location since 1893. Young Bros. & Daley has survived many wars, the great depression and all cycles of the economy and continues to thrive today. Young Bros. & Daley began business in 1893. In 1909 it was incorporated by Smith G. Young, Frank L. Young and John A. Daley. The business passed through several owners and was acquired by Robert A. Condon in 1978 at which time he appointed Barbara Crowley, the first women, to the Board of Directors. Robert A. Condon owned and operated Young Bros. & Daley until he passed away in 1986. At that time his stock passed to his sister Joanne Battley who inherited the business and was appointed Chairman of the Board along with her husband Dale Battley who was elected President of the corporation. Both Joanne and Dale became active employees of the corporation and Young Bros. & Daley then became a woman owned business in downtown Lansing. More recently, in 2003 Joanne and Dale Battley retired and their daughters Lori Battley-Williams and Joan Battley-Finken took over the management along side the Vice President Dennis Reinhart of over 43 years. The business located at 720 E. Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing for over 117 years adjacent to the railroad tracks is no accident. Many years ago bricks were delivered to Young Bros. & Daley by rail car and were unloaded by hand. Much has changed since the business started in 1893 and although our main thrust of the company remains constant in the selling of brick and stone, the addition of hearth products, paving and outdoor living products, and architectural stone and tile brings us to the current day. With a wide variety of manufacturers and resources our showroom continues to evolve to include the latest products and trends. We look forward to continued success & growth in the Lansing community for many years to come... |
